Workington Rail Hub Landscape Planting and Maintenance

In January 2017 the project main contractor; Story Contracting awarded the Landscape and maintenance contract for the external Landscaping of the site to Lowther Forestry Group.

Lowther Forestry Group’s head office in Cumbria, provided a team to carry out the landscaping and maintenance works. A dedicated contracts supervisor was assigned to the project to ensure resources and programed activities were coordinated with the client’s activities to achieve the programmed completion dates.

The works included the preparation of shrub planting beds, supply and installation of all soft landscape trees and shrubs, preparation and    seeding to grass verges and wildflower grassland area.

Planting Ornamental Shrub Beds

Planting operations were carried out in two phases to accommodate the main contractor’s activities.

Following the preparation of topsoil areas 900 pot grown Ornamental shrubs and trees were planted and the beds protected from weed growth with the installation of bark mulch.

The works also included the preparation and seeding of grass verges and the creation of sections of wild flower grassland.

Maintenance Works

Following completion of the planting operations, programmed grounds maintenance works including weeding, grass cutting, pruning and litter picking have been undertaken to ensure the successful establishment of the scheme.
